Transformational health expert Alexandra Jamieson is a woman on a mission. Having overcome her own food addictions and the weight and health problems these habits caused, she learned something life-altering: when we listen to our cravings, they will lead us onto the path of deep healing. Since her own personal breakthrough more than a decade ago, Alexandra has dedicated her life to helping other women learn to listen to the wisdom of their cravings and make food their greatest ally as they step into their lives with authentic passion.
In this powerfully feminine manifesto, Alexandra dares us to face our cravings head-on, to make the self-commitment to no longer hide out behind food, self-loathing, or the limiting expectations of others. With love, deep compassion, and fearless honesty, she calls upon all of us to boldly use food as a tool to cleanse ourselves of the nutritional, emotional, physical, and mental blocks that limit our ability to live full, meaningful, and joyful lives.
In this book she’ll show us how:
· Our cravings are the gatekeepers of our deepest longings and desires
· Transforming habits set us free
· Detoxing unclutters our bodies and minds so we may engage in our lives with more power and authenticity
· Embracing our sexual selves makes us more powerful
· Trusting ourselves and surrounding ourselves with a nurturing community is essential for a vital, healthy, hot life

Review
Women, Food, and Desire is a must read! As a physician fully aware of the impact of our thoughts and food on the waistline, I've waited for a book like this: one that brings together the sensual, emotional, and nutritional. Alexandra Jamieson brilliantly empowers women to face their toxic thoughts and food habits to establish a new relationship with their body and cravings. Her functional nutrition experience and vulnerability shine through each page of the book as she simplifies the path women can take to an embodied, pleasurable, and juicy life. (Dr. Sara Gottfried, MD)

Finally, someone is giving us permission to embrace our cravings and desires! Alex invites us to take a deep-dive within ourselves and use the cravings we try to avoid to create real transformation. This is an absolute must-read for every woman seeking liberation from being stuck in a world where we’ve been taught to hide our deepest desires! There is deep knowledge and insight in Women, Food, and Desire, and the best part is we are not alone and we can enjoy our lives by understanding this part of ourselves. (Mariel Hemingway, Actress Author Speaker Mother)
"As a theologian, I am intimate with the ways that religious texts have given the body a bad rep. The idea that the flesh is sinful and deceiving has created holy wars for women in their own bodies. Alexandra Jamieson reminds us that Eve was infinitely wise to eat that red apple. Pleasure is a form of soul-nourishment that we need to feel whole, vibrantly alive, and in love with life. This book will detox the shame that has kept you from being in your body. It will let you trust what you truly crave. It will open you to the power of becoming entirely who you are, and it will give you the permission to take action on your deepest desires." (Meggan Watterson, Author of REVEAL: A Sacred Manual For Getting Spiritually Naked)
Women, Food and Desire is a beautiful book that above all else, praises women. It’s filled with sweet words, clear advice, deep thoughts, and timeless wisdom. Alex Jamieson has reached into the heart of the feminine experience when it comes to food, and touched the place where transformation and delight can finally happen. If you’d like to go beyond the usual fare when it comes to nutritional advice, then consider this book a worthy feast. (Marc David, best-selling author and founder of the Institute for the Psychology of Eating)
Diet industry beware. You are about to be dismantled by the power of self-love. Alexandra Jamieson's approach to women's wellness brings joy and self-acceptance to the thorny issue of desire, that force that makes each of us who we are. (Claire Cavanah, co-founder of Babeland.com)
Pleasure and desire take center stage as the soul-nourishment that we need to finally be truly healthy, whole and alive. In Women, Food & Desire Alexandra Jamieson takes a stand for a woman's vibrant health and calls on you to trust your body and listen to what you truly crave. Like a perfect meal savored over an evening with good friends, Alexandra’s book offers nourishment, laughter, uh-huh moments, and wisdom— not just about how to feed your body — but how to feed your soul. Her insights and stories invite you back to your truest self, beckoning you to listen …listen... to the deeper inner longings that your cravings can reveal. She illuminates the path to making peace with your body and to living your most authentic life. I guarantee that you will find yourself reflected in her words. This book will give you the tools you need to give your overtired willpower a rest, move beyond blame and shame about cravings and food, and find the true fulfillment you are hungry for. (Dr. Aviva Romm, MD)
“The feminist perspective and focus on self-care, as well as Jamieson’s honesty about her own struggles, create a compelling authenticity. Far from another faddish diet guru, Jamieson guides readers into revolutionizing their entire relationship with food and their bodies.” (Publishers Weekly)
As a physician on the front lines of the sugar wars, I’ve longbeen on the lookout for a book I could recommend to patients who were ready toget off the dieting treadmill and really do the internal work necessary inorder to achieve a new relationship with nutritional healing, food, cravings, andtheir bodies permanently. Look no further, Women, Food & Desire is thatbook. (Dr. Mark Hyman)

- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2015Women, Food, and Desire is one of the best self-help books I've ever read. Alexandra Jamison explores the concept that feeling shame over our desires for both food and sex is a uniquely feminine problem and a destructive societal construct. She encourages her readers to really tune in to what their cravings are trying to tell them instead of trying to bury them or mindlessly giving into our cravings with little enjoyment or understanding of where they come from. Throughout the book, she interweaves her personal experience from illness to healing with unflinching honesty and a sharp wit. The plan of action outlined in the book is to detox from the "Toxic 6" ingredients: sugar, dairy, caffeine, gluten, and corn and soy products for 2 weeks and then slowly add them back in noticing how they affect you physically and mentally when you reintroduce them. It took planning and preparation, but I was able to eliminate the Toxic 6 and experienced so many positive changes, that it forever altered the way I will nourish my body. I have a history of depression, thyroid disease, and hormone imbalances and in just those two weeks I had increased energy, better sleep, a steadier mood, clearer skin, healthier looking hair, and a slimmer body. This book explores health and weight loss from a physical perspective, but also very much from an emotional perspective, and I think by taking a hard look at why we do what we do, a lasting change is completely possible. As it states on the cover, this book has helped me reclaim my body and my right to fulfill my desires for the pleasures of both food and sex. I really needed reminding that while I'm taking care of others, including my husband and daughter, that I deserve to FEEL GOOD, and enjoy my life to the fullest.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2015This is not a diet book; this is a book that presents an evolution in how to approach life. I loved it and I love Alex’s casual and friendly charm.
“I want a meatball and a man” and “Self-trust, which is the ability to tune into and honor one’s deepest desires, is something that terrifies a lot of women” captures her raw, real and honest approach to our cravings.
She makes talking about a topic that everyone deals with, our eating habits, fun and thoughtful. She effortlessly weaves in science, personal stories and anecdotes from her clients in a way that makes the reader feel like you are on a weekend retreat with her and her wisdom. The book also helped me re-think my craving fixes. Is that what I really want? What do I really want in this moment and how can I be more innovative with it rather than default to a habit that doesn’t serve me?
This is a book everyone needs as a reminder that we all have the power to manage our own relationship to food. Diets don’t work and that's because you are following someone else's rules. Alex helps the reader see that we have the power inside of us to create the relationship to food we want.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2015I really enjoyed this book. I struggle with food addiction, and in this book it explains so much as to why we can't control our cravings when we aren't aware of the reasons why. I love the steps she includes to help curb cravings, and to empower the goddess inside us. Love it.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2015alex offers a fresh and much needed perspective on the journey toward a healthy body and relationship with food. this book will help you approach cravings, challenges with weight loss, frustrations around wanting to feel comfortable in your body but you don't in ways that are positive, compassionate, and self-affirming. she combines her knowledge of functional nutrition, the importance of gut health, positive psychology, and real world work with clients in a an easy to read and engaging format. i have recommended it to a number of people and also recommend checking out alex's cravings cast podcasts and joining her on a cravings cleanse. alex clearly has a passion and joy for life that comes across in this book and she guides you to look below the surface of cravings to ask yourself what you really desire out of life.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2015I was expecting more from this book. The title and concept seemed very interesting but I just couldn't get into it. It's a bit all over the place but has a good message running through it. I just felt like much of what she said isn't new, it was just presented in a different way. So, for me, it was just okay.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2015This is a book that I wish I had read years ago. Admitting what I really wanted in life, or even recognizing that I did want something, just didn't happen for me. It's only recently that I've seen that it's alright to acknowledge that I have desires and they're not a bad thing. This book walks through many types of cravings we experience, what they mean and how to make it easier to really know what our bodies are trying to tell us so we can start living happier, healthier lives.
I really loved the examples. I find it pretty easy to read personal development books and tell myself that whatever the author suggests won't work for me because of x, y, z. The examples make it so much harder to give excuses of why I can't do what I'm reading and make it easier for me to see how I can take action.
I've already become more aware about why I'm eating when I grab food and have tried to ask myself what I really need in that moment. I've got a long way to go, but I'm finally starting to recognize real hunger is not the same as feeling like I need food and am excited to start really exploring my food options as I get more in tune with what my cravings are really telling me.

I was a bit puzzled and disappointed when I received an "Advance Reader's Edition - Not for Sale or Quotation" copy when I thought I was purchasing the finished product. With that, were edits that still needed to be made and areas left blank, such as the Epilogue and Acknowledgement pages. It didn't matter though. This book was still a fantastic, juicy, one-of-a-kind read. I recommend it to every woman, even those who feel they have a "handle on life". Alexandra says things in such a way that what I grew in my mind as insurmountable challenges, are expressed in easy, relaxed, do-able, non-judgemental terms. This is definitely not just about food. It's about near-everything a woman can be thinking or doing in their life. I feel a lot more confident and relaxed moving forward. I couldn't get enough of it. I just want to read the book all over again to soak up bits I might have missed. I'll not be giving this book away any time soon but will for sure be buying copies for the women in my life who I love and care about. A stellar book. Thanks Alexandra!!!
