About the Brand
John A. McDougall, M.D.--physician, nutrition expert, and founder of Dr. McDougall's Right Foods--has been studying, writing, and "speaking out" about the effects of nutrition on health for more than 20 years and is one of the "founding fathers" of modern wellness. Dr. McDougall believes that people should look and feel great, and should enjoy optimal health for a lifetime.
Unfortunately, many people compromise their health unknowingly through poor dietary habits. Dr. McDougall should know. He suffered a stroke at the age of 18 then developed an interest in medicine. He went on not only to reverse his own health and enjoy life, but to teach thousands how to enjoy good health themselves.
Dr. McDougall is founder and medical director of the nationally renowned McDougall Program in Santa Rosa, California. Based on several years of private practice with thousands of patients and extensive medical research, Dr. McDougall has developed a nourishing, low-fat diet that not only promotes a broad range of health benefits such as weight loss, but more importantly can reverse serious illness, such as heart disease, without drugs.
A graduate of Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine, Dr. McDougall performed his internship at Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, and his medical residency at the University of Hawaii. He is certified as an internist by the Board of Internal Medicine and the National Board of Medical Examiners. He has authored (or co-authored with his wife, Mary) ten best-selling books about the connection between nutrition and health, and is a frequent lecturer and talk show guest. He enjoys travel, wind surfing, and hiking. A few times a year, Dr. McDougall leads adventure and wellness trips to exotic locations serving McDougall style foods. Guests return feeling fit and healthy.
All of Dr. McDougall's instant meal cups are all-natural, absolutely delicious, very low in fat, satisfying, nutritious, quick and easy to prepare, developed by a medical doctor, free of cholesteral, vegetarian, and non-dairy.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2009This oatmeal is the best! I've been eating Quaker maple & brown sugar since I was a kid and and this blows Quaker away! If you order McDougall's through subscribe and save the price is exactly the same as Acme store brand maple and brown sugar. The consistency is different than Quaker. Probably the biggest difference I noticed is with Quaker I've always noticed a grainy type texture with every spoonful. Guess I just got used to that over the years. With McDougall's, all you can taste is the real oatmeal flavor with a nice touch of maple and brown sugar. Subscribe and save has made going organic much easier on my pocketbook too. There is no dollar amount on the fact that it gets delivered to my front door, saving me precious time and gas from going all the way to the nearest Whole Foods for a healthier chioce in eating. It's delicious, cheap and so good for you. Thanks Amazon for your subscribe and save program!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2013Our Oatmeal box is marked Light Maple Brown Sugar, but inside the box is regular Oatmeal. The contents of the box is NOT what we ordered.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2013The "Light" label immediately makes me think of artificial sweeteners. Fortunately, this product just has less sugar in it, so it's just less sweet - exactly what we've been looking for.
The only thing that worries me is the "Natural Flavors" on the ingredients, hence 4 stars instead of 5. To someone who doesn't know better, you would assume that it means flavor derived from natural sources, which isn't necessarily true. "Natural Flavors", in the US, means that the flavoring agent is chemically identical do the substances found in nature, but it could have been synthesized in a lab. It's a great way to concentrate the flavor of food while hiding behind a weasel word. Google "Natural Flavor" for more info. It's kind of like "Free Range" and "Cage Free" - doesn't necessarily mean what you think it means.
I'm sure Dr. McDougall's has our best interest at heart though, right? /s
That being said, I'm ordering some more since it's an easy, tasty breakfast (those natural flavors work!), and we already have hot water for coffee and tea in the morning.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2013Tried this as a replacement for the McCanns Maple Brown sugar that seems to have disappeared from Amazon and my local stores. The consistency is similar to the McCanns, but the flavor is much more bland. I find it enjoyable after adding some maple syrup and freeze dried fruit, but none of that was needed with the McCanns. Still, far superior to the Quaker and store brands that seem to be all that is around right now.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2013I have been purchasing this product for several years now and up until now I loved this. I got my 2 cases about a week or so ago and I am TOTALLY disappointed in this product, it has little if any maple and brown sugar in it any more, so to say the very least it is tasteless. What a shame they removed all the taste to up grade this product just could not leave well enough alone, even the packaging is different. There is nothing new and improved about this tasteless oatmeal.. Sad but I will no longer be purchasing this any longer. Dr. McDougall what did you do
- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2012I had been looking for a prepackaged oatmeal that was organic as well as low in sugar. Dr. McDougall's is both organic and has less than half the sugar as most other prepackaged oatmeal (6 grams per serving). Its quick to fix and delicious. Each pack has 5 grams of protein, 4 grams of fiber and no ingredients you can't read or understand. I haven't been able to find Dr. McDougall's at my local grocery stores so I order it by the case from Amazon.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2016This used to be a wonderful product. I've enjoyed it for a few years now. However, I knew that something was wrong when I opened the cardboard box in which the smaller boxes are packed. There were multiple small dead insects inside. They looked kind of like moths. I recycled the cardboard, then thought to check inside one of the smaller, individual boxes. Well, when I opened that one, there was a live moth-like insect inside. Fearing infestation, I immediately threw away the entire order. Too bad. I used to really like this product. Will never buy from them again.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2010As instant oatmeal goes, this one tastes very good. However, a warning if you're gluten-free...this is not certified GF. I was shopping the GF section and this item came up so I bought it. It is organic, but nowhere on the box does it claim to be GF.
