- Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2014My mother in law has two dogs. I've owned dogs my whole life and I've learned a thing or two about caring for them. She buys the most expensive dog food out there because if it costs more then it has to be better right? Not always so. She also has a bad habit of feeding them right from the table and then can't figure out why they get sick. I basically bought this book for her. I want to see her dogs have a long and healthy life and in order for them to do that they have to have the right nutrition. I love the tips in this book from the best foods to buy to the best non commercial dog food options out there. I like the organic options. Getting through this book was the easy part. Now I just have to talk my mother in law!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2014I’ve had big dogs all my life, but I recently got my first little dog. He is so tiny that I know I’ve got to be very careful what he eats, and I was overwhelmed with all the different options there are for his food choices. Glad I ran into this book though, and I really appreciated the specific brands recommended for each type of dog food. I will try those first to see if my little guy will accept them, but it is also nice to have criteria to use for deciding on other brands if he doesn’t care for the flavors of the ones suggested. Before reading the information provided, I wasn’t concerned about what the first ingredient is listed on the ingredients list, and I didn’t understand the need for proteins to be listed first on the dog food we choose. Now I understand why it is so vital to have proteins first in the list and corn or less nutritional items down further or not on the list at all. I would have liked for the book to address the known dangers of poisonous ingredients in dog food made in China specifically, but the positive details to look for in foods rule out most of the food manufactured there anyways.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2014I recently just got a Siberian husky puppy, and this book is my go-to for any information I need regarding dog food and what I should feed him. From organic diets to foods that need to be avoided, “Dog Food Secrets” contains all the information any dog owner needs. Michele Banich really knows her stuff, and I'm glad she's sharing this information with the world. I want to keep him healthy and happy, and this book is the perfect and quick way to get my puppy what he needs. Banich provides great tips and covers all the details to make sure my puppy will maintain a healthy and full diet that he can handle, and I’m so glad I have her book to help me out!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2014Really didn't give any good information, just the sort of thing like "read the label" etc. Would have liked some recommendations, or reasons why to pick on ingredient over another.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2015Pretty basic stuff. More like a quick review pamphlet than a real book.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2014We’re about to get my son a dog so I’ve been going through books and blogs about taking care of them. Purchasing Dog Food Secrets is so far the best I’ve done with my research. We are planning to just buy the regular dog food in the market but reading this book makes me think more than twice. The book has all the stuff you’ll need in terms of feeding your dogs. I can’t even believe there is organic dog food and a whole lot of other foods I have no idea existed! If you’re a newbie like us in taking care of dogs then you should grab this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2014This book says nothing and does it poorly. There is nothing of value here ... move on! Even the lists of information make no sense whatsoever. It is an embarrassment to writers and dog owners everywhere. The author should just love her dog and continue with her day job.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2014This is a great short book that tells you where and how to choose the best food for you dog. This is worth reading. And it's short so you won't spend a year finding out about dog food
