Product Description
Tiny Footprint Coffee, the world’s first carbon negative coffee. Through a unique collaboration between Roastery 7 and the Mindo Cloudforest Foundation, one an Artisan coffee roastery and the other a nonprofit conservation organization, the two teamed up to create the ultimate combination of good karma. So, how is our coffee carbon negative you might ask? It’s simple, really. It takes 4 lbs. of CO2 to produce and distribute 1 lb. of our coffee. For every pound that’s sold, we donate a portion of the proceeds to fund reforestation in Ecuador’s Mindo cloud forest. Over time, these trees will remove 54 lbs. of CO2 from the atmosphere. You see? More CO2 removed than emitted.
Our reforestation efforts along the Northwestern Andes of Ecuador help to plant native tree species throughout the Mindo Cloud Forest region in heavily deforested areas. These trees not only sequester massive amounts of carbon from the air, but also provide habitat to hundreds of local bird species, reinforce soil conservation techniques, and rebuild water tables. The Mindo Cloudforest Foundation works directly with local landowners to provide jobs related to the care and redevelopment of the cloud forest.
Making coffee great takes time, effort and passion. At Tiny Footprint Coffee, we pour endless hours into sourcing the finest, sustainably-grown Arabica coffee beans from around the world. Beans that are not only shade-grown, but also organic certified, and most often fair-trade or Rain Forest Alliance certified. We also purchase coffee from small, family-owned farms that are not fair-trade eligible, yet grow some of the most beautiful, best tasting coffees on the planet. We do all of the roasting and training from our roastery in Minneapolis, MN where we’re working hard to make the entire roastery carbon negative – from fully bio-degradable coffee bags, high-efficiency lighting and fuel-efficient ribbon burners on our roaster, to composting coffee grounds and reducing waste around the shop.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2019Style: Whole BeanSize: 48 Ounce (Pack of 1)Verified PurchaseI've been buying this coffee for months now. It stays fresh in the bag if you use a bag clip, and the dark roast maintains a nice, oily sheen even down to the last few beans.
I use an antique manual grinder in a french-press and heat the water to 190F an electric kettle. The dark roast is smooth and full-bodied, with chocolate and floral notes that linger on the back of the tongue. Smells like you always thought a Folgers commercial should. I will be buying this coffee again.
Drink more coffee, plant more trees, it's simple as that.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2015Style: Whole BeanSize: 48 Ounce (Pack of 1)Verified PurchaseThis is for the whole bean medium roast. Beware that this product page actually displays several different roasts and blends.
Using a medium-fine (3.5/10) grind in an Aeropress with 190° water, consumed black, without sugar or milk:
Roast: medium-dark
Body: medium
Acidity: medium
Flavor: citrusy, slightly sweet, mild aroma, slight earthiness (especially in the nose)
Oiliness: medium-high
This coffee works decently well as a morning default. It's well balanced and lacks any strong characteristics. There's not much to write home about in terms of flavor, but it's also not lacking anything. Not my favorite, but the price is good when using subscribe and save. I like it better than most breakfast blends, but I prefer single source beans that have more distinctive flavors. But buying this blindly off of Amazon without being able to try it first, it's hard to go wrong, whereas buying single bean coffees blindly might mean that you end up with several pounds of bad coffee. This is safe.
Note: This coffee does *not* work well with cold brew. Maybe it was just the particular test batch, but all I could taste was earthiness—not the good kind, but muddy like bleh—without any aromatics or acidity. Every other whole bean coffee I've tried works better than this one for cold brew.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2015Style: GroundSize: 16 Ounce (Pack of 2)Verified PurchaseBold roast review: I've been drinking this coffee for years now and I plan to do so for many more. I've tried coffee from all over the world and this is one of the best. Strong flavor with very little bitterness. The bag does a pretty good job of keeping the air out but I still pour the grounds into an air-tight container to lock all the flavor in. I like that this comes in a two pack because I can just throw the second bag in the freezer and it doesn't lose any flavor. I don't know if I completely buy the whole replacing more carbon back into the rain forest than they take out but regardless, I like that they are conscious about it. Organic really is the way go, both environmentally and long term economically.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2015Style: GroundSize: 16 Ounce (Pack of 2)Verified PurchaseI sent this coffee to my son in college, and ordered Ground, not whole bean because he lives in a dorm and doesn't have a grinder. One of the bags was ground and was delicious, but when he opened the second bag, he found that it was whole bean. He is in the middle of exams and was counting on this coffee. Any chance you can send him another bag?
- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2018Style: Whole BeanSize: 48 Ounce (Pack of 1)Verified PurchaseAbout to purchase my 12th pound of this stuff. I've tried every local coffee shop (I still support my local shops!) and ordered 10-12 other brands. I only purchase organic fair trade beans for at home brew. The dark roast from Tiny Footprint is absolutely delicious. I like bold, dark and rich and its all three. The body and taste never get old to me and its comfort in a mug. I saw some other comments about too much oil or bland taste... Number one, the darker the roast the more oily the beans (so have a grinder thats capable) and number two, if you want more flavor grind the beans to a finer consistency (if that doesn't work, you have a busted palette).
- Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2012Style: GroundSize: 16 Ounce (Pack of 2)Verified PurchaseFigured I would try this (trying to be ecologically concious) as it seemed like an interesting Idea. Well I tried but the coffee is just not worth it. Tastes really bland, nothing special about it and not something I would order again. There are so many better coffees out there,German, Kona, Jamaican Blue Mountain etc. Now those may be more expensive but there are less expensive alternatives too. This is just not it.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2018Style: Whole BeanSize: 48 Ounce (Pack of 1)Verified PurchaseLet me start with I am a hobby roaster. During the winter I shut down until spring. I have this in my review since my review is ultimately a negative and I know how NOT to roast. To hold me over I buy beans from boutique roasters here on Amazon. I purchased this brand based on the reviews and environmental consciousness of the company. I received 3 lbs of dark roast that appeared a good roast. Dark brown and a little oily just how I like it. However the taste was less than satisfactory. The beans had a taste of over roasted and ashy in the cup with overly high acidity. This is possibly the wrong bean to go dark or frankly the equipment had a burnt roast before this batch. Very disappointed since I ordered bulk on this. I threw out over 2 lbs of beans and ordered other beans.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2014Style: Whole BeanSize: 16 Ounce (Pack of 2)Verified PurchaseIve tried many coffee products in the organic, shade-grown genre and this is by far the smoothest, well-balanced bean yet. The beans arrived perfectly roasted, fresh, nicely oily, with an awesome aroma. Every cup has been perfect. I love dark roast coffee but hate over-roasted darks. I have tried Kicking Horse from amazon and although a good product, I had trouble getting what I would consider to be a perfect cup as it always seemed slightly over roasted and bitter. I use only french press and pour over methods, btw. Tiny footprint really seem to have their techniques dialed in and Im a fan of the environmental stewardship they stand for. Ill be a repeat customer and highly recommend this coffee.
