Plant Based Nutrition for Endurance Athletes: The New Science of Exploiting Organic and Raw Foods (The Science of Nutrition Book 1) Kindle Edition
The Science Behind Why a Proper Plant Based Diet Can Provide More Energy for Endurance Athletes
It is a widely accepted principle, even among those who embrace the standard Western style diet, that eating unprocessed, organic foods is in general healthier than eating a highly processed meat based diet. What is not generally known is the specific impact that eating a diet consisting primarily of organic, plant based foods can have on the performance of the endurance athlete.
Athletic performance is largely dependent on how well the body is able to manage, store and process energy. Eating a diet of unprocessed, organic food enables the human body to produce an excess of energy while at the same time negating the potential for any harmful ingredients. That clean energy increases endurance levels, overall stamina and optimal fitness of the human body. Conversely, eating a processed meat based diet demands a greater energy cost based on the metabolic processes involved and in turn yields a much smaller nutritional payload.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2015Format: KindleVerified PurchaseGreat book if you want to get some more information and get a better understanding on your anatomy and how certain foods break down in your body. It feels like I'm reading an A&P book, but more digestible. It's a short read and packed very good primer.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI was expecting advice on pre/post activity meals, balances of nutrients, recipes, etc. for vegan athletes, but this was short and basically said eat your greens.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2015Format: KindleAs a wellness coach, I am always looking for new ways to increase endurance through things other than supplements. This book discusses how a plant-based diet and eating clean, unprocessed food can impact your athletic performance and increase your metabolism. Although a brief book, author Paul Rogers provides a ton of useful information, with the science to back it up.
One popular misconception is regarding protein for athletes. There is a section in this book that looks at how bad animal protein can be for athletes. As Rogers writes, humans do not have the enzymes necessary to break down and digest animal-based protein and raw meats. Digesting clean, unprocessed foods can both preserve energy and speed up the digestion process.
If you are an athlete looking for an added edge or just someone who is looking to become more fit, this is a great book to download. Well-written, to-the-point, and well-organized, I found it to be extremely helpful for myself and my clients.
