My mouth gets dry when I run — I’m a mouth breather — so I always stick in some gum before I start. Pur peppermint has been my gum of choice recently, and here’s why. It’s a 5K gum. For about three miles it keeps me hydrated — not with constant chewing or anything, just hanging out in my mouth with an occasional munch here and there when needed — and it has a good consistency and texture. Unlike other gums, it doesn’t start falling apart with all the air coming in or lack of use. But at the three-mile mark, it’s time for another piece.
This works well for me. The flavor is good, and it stimulates enough saliva to keep me going until I can stop and properly hydrate. The other flavors don’t work at all. Peppermint is the winner for my needs.
There’s more gum in this bag than I expected — a lot of miles — and the price is definitely reasonable for the benefits.
