- Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2017Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseI normally don't leave a review; but, I felt compelled to leave a review for this one. This book is so amazing! It has more than what I expected. I'm one to research everything so that my fur-baby only gets the best. So when I looked through this book I loved that the authors referenced everything. They even spoke with Veterinary Nutristionists at Cornell University. I spoke with a specialist there and they really are trusted experts. I also like how they spoke about their own fur-babies and how they use those recipes for their dogs. This book includes substitution ideas, nutrition facts, and sidebars. There is even an index for the sidebars if you ever want to reread the facts. Their chapters are so cleverly created as well. Their instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Some of them are repeated in each recipe; but, I like that so you can be reminded without having to find it elsewhere in the book. As an added bonus there is a bookmark. I would've liked to see pictures of the recipes, but the silhouettes of different dog breeds is a cute touch. And yes the ingredients are organic. Everything is either fruit or veggies. You simply spend a couple extra bucks to buy the organic fruits/veggies that don't include preservatives, pesticides, or chemical changes. But still be sure to give them a good rinse before baking with it/giving it directly to your dog to eat. Thank you so much to the authors for publishing a book like this one!

- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2009I found some recipes in Bark magazine that were from The Organic Dog Biscuit Cookbook. The Organic Dog Biscuit Cookbook: Over 100 "Tail Wagging" Recipes My Boston pup, Boss, liked them so much that I ordered the book from Amazon.com. So far, I have tried 15 recipes. Boss' favorites are: Thatsa One Spicy Meatball, The Classic, Lil' Taste O' Pie, Muddy Paws, Red Hot Puppermints (breath), Apple Cinnamon Muttins, Ice Cubes Just Got A Lot Better, Because I Carob 'Bout You, Cheesecake Brownies, Jerky Turkey and Dragon Slayers (breath). Luckily I have a dog that will eat just about anything. I tried the Blueberry Muttins, but he wasn't too crazy about the blueberries. When I gave him the first one, he picked all the blueberries out and left them on the rug. Eventually he ate the whole thing. All treats are made with organic ingredients. The Red Hot Puppermints require beet powder, which at our organic grocery store cost over $35 a pound. The little bag I bought was over $6. They also include explanations of the benefits of some of the ingredients: natural food colorings, avoid the onions, broth vs. gravy, preparing the beef, substitutions - just do it, oils, fish for dogs, parsley packs a punch, liver - it's time to love it, benefits of molasses, benefits of barley flour, the goodness of garlic, lickin' their chops for chicken, rosemary for more than seasoning, nuts - the good, the bad and the ugly, flaxseeds, spinach - leaf & green, broccoli - it's hard to beat, carob, out of the patch and into the bowl (pumpkin), ginger, white chocolate in moderation, an apple a day, oats & oat bran, peanut butter, peppermint, apple cider vinegar, berry, berry yummy, yogurt? you bet!, zucchini's zogood, a taste of the tropics (coconut), carrots for breakfast, the "eyes" have it (pupeyes), flying treats (yams), herbs for life, grain-free flours, gobbling up turkey, home on the range (buffalo) and salmon. If this has piqued your interest, you might want to think about ordering the book. It's well worth the price. The organic ingredients can be a littly pricy, but I'm glad to know that my puppy is getting something that's not full of fillers, sugar or salt.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2020Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseThis is the ONLY dog treat recipe book I'm ever using again! Every book I've ever owned used garlic in recipes. GARLIC is TOXIC to dogs! I'm thrilled because there is absolutely no mention of garlic in this book. Sadly though, even though the authors give loads of nutritional information about the ingredients and even mention that onion is toxic, they do not tell you that garlic us. And it's more toxic than onions and a much more common ingredient in dog treat recipes.
The book is broken down into chapters, based on complexity of recipes which is helpful. I also mentioned the nutritional information given. They also suggest substitutions. The most important part is they constantly remind you NOT to substitute chocolate for the carob. A nice addition would be a reminder when pumpkin is called for, not to use canned pumpkin PIE mix. The nutmeg in it is toxic.
I love the fact you don't have to use organic ingredients and you can use the equivalent found in regular grocery stores. Because let's face it, not all of us (including me) can afford pricier organic food.
Another ingredient that this book avoids is processed sugar. NEVER give your dog products with processed sugar! Dogs get diabetes too! The authors use minimal amounts of honey or molasses instead, even for "frosting".
This book will be my only dog treat book for the rest of my life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Biscotti per Fido

4.0 out of 5 stars A good cookbook
Overall, I am happy with the cookbook, it is easy to understand and the ingredients can be easily found in the supermarket. It also provided guides on what storage tips, ingredient substitution, tools needed etc . The paper quality of the book is also great. However, I feel that it would be perfect if only the pictures of each and every treats completed can be included to this book so that readers would have an idea on how the end product looks like. Tried baking quite a few of the cookies, my pup loves it. As a beginner in baking, this book really renders good guide.
