Product Description

La Red de Productores Ecologicos de la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta was established in 2001. The organization started a process of consolidation and organization of production, trade, and administration in order to move toward far more sustainable production and marketing processes. This is a process which has needed significant efforts by farmers and their households in altering from standard to organic farming. Support of the organization has been basic in implementing conversion plans which include: construction of standard sanitation modules, processors for coffee pulping, creating composters, trenches for garbage and recycling, defining production places, and the conservation and the protection of flora and fauna. The project to date has 18 groups in which 600 families and 900 farms are involved.
